I get my love of power tools, it turns out, from my Dad. He’s always had a workshop in his basement where he has made various things over the years for himself and others. He’s really good and every once in a while we talk ‘shop’. The other day he stopped in and our conversation turned to power tools (don’t ask ;0) and I mentioned that I’ve always wanted a saw blade clock for my wall and now that I have an actual studio, I was kind of on the lookout for one. That was that until the next morning when he called and said he had something for me. He popped in with a saw blade clock that he made for me out of one of his own smaller, girlier saw blades!
I love it! But, before I slapped a layer of mossy green on it, it was a bit industrial for me – sorry Dad.
I then decided that it needed something that reflected what I love – books! I dug through my magazines and settled on a variety of pictures of handmade books that I pulled out of my Cloth Paper Scissors mags. I tore them up in to a variety of smaller, messy pieces.
I then doused the clock with mod podge (glossy) and stuck on the paper bits in no real order. I then put another thick layer of mod podge over top of the whole thing to smooth it out.
I let it dry for a few hours and then I flipped it over and trimmed the excess paper off to reveal the blades.
So, it’s still a saw blade clock with a creative spin to it. It looks great on my wall!
Oh, you’re getting a sneak peek of my newest aRt coRneR! I found the most amazing artist’s desk at Micheal’s last nite and added it to my studio. I’m hoping to do a new ‘studio tour’ video for you shortly as I’ve revamped the whole room again now that the trim is done…it is my favorite space in the whole wide world and I can’t wait to share the final room with you!
PS. those papers hanging are for the latest art course I’m in by Carla Sonheim – Artist’s Junk Mail Book. Day 2 today. Once the kids are in bed I’m watercoloring all over them…stay tuned!

What a GREAT idea and what a special thing your dad did to honor you… I smiled as I know my dad would have done the same for me! It turned out darling! Selah <3
Thanks! He called last nite to tell me that he really liked what I did to it. I offered to do the same thing to his whole workshop but he regretfully declined. Hmmm…
What a creatively cool idea!! That just rocks!! Cheers, Jenn
